Meet David Stevens: woodwind educator at Winchester Stage Music Center
David Stevens A native of California, David is a multifaceted musician now a resident of Boston and currently splits his time as an educator, performer, theorist, and music administrator. As a saxophonist and woodwind doubler, he is active in classical, musical theatre, jazz, rock, and improvisation. As a classical musician, he has performed with the groups as diverse as the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), ALEA III, Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra, Hub New Music, and the Navy Band East. David is an ardent educator and has been teaching woodwinds (saxophone, clarinet, and flute) since 2005 in group and private instructor. He is on faculty at the EKS Music School, the All Newton Music School, and Brookline Adult and Continuing Education, and has also performed educational outreach with the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, North End Music and Performing Arts Center, and the Boston Philharmonic’s Crescendo! Program. David also has extensive experience in ensemble management, concert production, and composer assistance for a variety of organizations. He is currently the manager for Collage New Music and Director of Community Outreach for Eureka Ensemble. In 2015, David was the live-in Musical Assistant to Gunther Schuller. Gunther became a mentor, a teacher, and a friend, and he continues to promote his work as a performer, lecturer, and theorist. David holds a Bachelor's degree in music from California State University, Fullerton, where he was a President’s Scholar and graduated summa cum laude (2013), and a Double Masters Degree in Saxophone Performance and Music Theory from New England Conservatory (2016).
