Nicky DeFrancesco (She/They), violin/voice/piano at Winchester Stage Music Center
Nicky DeFrancesco studied and received a music degree in Voice in 2015 from the world-renowned conservatory; Manhattan School of Music. She studied under the tutelage of the American tenor Neil Rosenshein.
While studying and residing in New York City, Nicky’s vocal performances included, the New York Choral Consortium’s New York Philharmonic debut at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center; Jules Massenet’s Thais under the direction of George Mahahan at Borden Auditorium; the Empire City Men’s Chorus at Carnegie Hall; The Kennedy Center Millennium Stage in Washington, D.C. MSM Chamber Choir under the direction of Kent Tritle and as a soloist at St John the Devine Cathedral, NYC.
Nicky’s development as a musician began in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. She trained and performed with the New England Conservatory of Music and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. Nicky performed as a vocalist at Tanglewood with the Boston Pops under the direction of John Williams and as a young violinist toured Europe with the New England Ambassadors of Music. Nicky has the unique distinction of being a twelve time All State award winning musician in Classical Voice, Jazz Voice and Violin.
The recitalist returned to New Hampshire. She became a tenor soloist at The First Church, Congregational - United Church of Christ in Nashua NH, was lead tenor with the Nashua Choral Society and has performed at the First Unitarian Church in Worcester, Mass. They also perform in string trio/quartets throughout New England. Nicky is the current Orchestral Director for Pinkerton Academy in Derry New Hampshire and teaches private lessons in voice, violin, viola, keyboard and songwriting. They have been happy enjoying sixteen years of being a private music instructor and strives to confirm joy in every single student she teaches.
Nicky’s goal is to decolonize the Eurocentric idea of beauty in western music. Nicky is also known as the Crimson Fiddler, titled for the unique, improvisatory fiddling style where she mimics the sounds of birds in the tropical jungles of the Philippines on violin. She uses this fiddling style in sound healing sessions, and artistic events.
