Meet Sue Penny Marion: Art teacher at Winchester Stage Music Center
Sue Penny Marion, Art Teacher at Winchester Stage Music Center
At a very young age I knew I wanted to be an artist. Growing up I was surrounded by the creative process. At age 10 I began painting watercolors with my dad, who was a professional artist. My uncle was also a successful oil painter on Nantucket. I found myself awestruck by how they could turn a blank canvas into a beautiful work of art.
I am continuously drawn towards the beauty in nature. I love the way sunlight flickers over a body of water, creating rhythmic patterns as warm colors meet cool. I find early morning and late afternoon light to be the most dramatic. I am compelled to capture these fleeting moments in time when the light is most beautiful. I seek to understand the truth of what is visually happening in order to share it with others through my painting. My hope is to bring a sense of peace and a moment of appreciation for the beauty of nature through my work.
I’ve been painting murals and canvases 40+ years. I enjoy working “big”, transforming walls into scenes that create unique spaces. I have a BFA in Painting and spent months in Europe studying the masters. Most recently, I was part of an atelier at the Boston School of Painting.
Currently I reside in Groton, Mass. I teach painting privately and have taught in the public school systems. Many of the paintings on my website can be made in prints or giclees in a variety of sizes. I also paint commissions pieces.
