Meet Eya Setsu: Violin teacher at Stage Music Center

Eya Setsu, Violin teacher at Stage Music Center.

Eya Setsu completed her Graduate Professional Diploma at The Hartt School under the guidance of Anton Miller. She received her dual masters in Violin Performance and Music Theory at the University of Akron.  Her undergraduate studies at Stony Brook University included both Biology/Bioengineering and Music (with her long-time mentor, Dr. Linda Sinanian). Eya was the 2018 recipient of the Elizabeth Ball Kurz Music Prize while at Stony Brook.

As an avid orchestral musician, Eya had the opportunity to perform at venues around the country, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and most recently, the Bushnell Performing Arts Center.  Her experience includes performances with The Hartt Orchestra, New Britain Symphony Orchestra, Firebird Pops Orchestra, FOOSA Philharmonic, and Tuscarawas Philharmonic. Notable masterclass appearances were with Astrid Schween of the Julliard String Quartet, Cassatt Quartet, Peter Zazofsky, the Aizuri Quartet, Merz Trio, Dylana Jenson, and the Escher String Quartet.

Eya’s passion for teaching and mentoring has grown steadily over the past 10 years as she watched her students develop and succeed in mastering their goals. Her teaching philosophy focuses on blending the technical and musical skills needed to perform appropriate standard repertoire, while also allowing students to have fun with the music of their choice.  Students are always highly encouraged to ask questions as well as provide input for what piece they would like to work on next.
