While repertoire will be decided based on the singing levels, commitment, and abilities of enrolled students, you can expect to work with songs from musicals such as The Drowsy Chaperone, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, The Sound of Music, Guys and Dolls, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Hamilton, Anything Goes, Songs for a New World, Mamma Mia!, Pippin, Dear Evan Hansen, and more!

Students will perform the prepared pieces for friends and family in a fun, inviting recital environment at the conclusion of the 12 weeks.

This class is perfect for any adolescent who loves singing and theatre. Broadway on Stage will not only strengthen singing and acting skills, but it will also improve communication and encourage connections between musicians as we work together to produce the best routines possible. Collaboration is key in this class! The Broadway on Stage setting is warm, supportive, and encouraging as students step outside their comfort zone to try new techniques, new ideas, and character work. Through working outside their comfort zone and receiving support, encouragement, and perspectives, deeper confidence is developed.

This class offers opportunities for solo work to be featured and for ensemble pieces to shine. While solo opportunities are offered, the main focus of this class is on group numbers and ensemble work in order to deeply instill values of trusting your peers, togetherness, and creating professional relationships between musicians.

Methods: This class will work through proper singing techniques such as diaphragmatic breathing, healthy warm-ups, and head vs chest voice while keeping students engaged and entertained through a variety of focused games and practice approaches. It will also explore communicating complex and comedic emotions through facial expression, body position, and posture while singing or reacting if in a group piece.

This class is beneficial for instilling healthy singing and advanced acting approaches. Broadway on Stage will examine various acting techniques including Stanislavski’s Classical acting technique, Viewpoints, the Meisner technique, the Uta Hagen Realism technique, and more.

By creating a relationship between these techniques and the songs being examined throughout the 12 weeks, students will develop a well-rounded approach to musical theatre that they can take with them to the high school drama club, community theatre guilds, and beyond!
